Loss is rough on hearts. Sometimes, our hearts can be in danger.
The following is a chapter from Soul Cry: Devotional Prayers for Wounded, Grieving, and Suffering Hearts. If your heart is feeling vulnerable, I hope this will be an encouragement to you today.
My Heart is in Danger
Psalm 31:1-5, 7
In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
(31:1-2)
My heart is in danger, O God.
My soul is under attack.
The world is not friendly to my suffering.
Some of those closest to me have turned away.
Feelings of rejection and loneliness stalk me.
There are times when the darkness
closes in around me,
and I cannot see.
I am shattered on the inside.
I hide myself in You.
Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
for you are my refuge.
(31:3-4)
Do not let me go into despair.
Do not let me be tricked and goaded into bitterness.
Do not let these heart wounds consume me.
You know my scars.
You know me.
I am in Your heart.
I am Yours.
Protect and strengthen me, O my God.
Into your hands I commit my spirit;
deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
I will be glad and rejoice in your love,
for you saw my affliction
and knew the anguish of my soul.
(31:5, 7)
I yield myself to You – all of me.
I choose You over all else and all others.
You see me. You know me.
You hear my heart.
I entrust to You my body,
my mind, my emotions, my will,
my health, my possessions, my relationships,
my family, my reputation, my hopes,
my future, my spirit.
I am Yours – all Yours.
And You are mine.
In Jesus’ name…
