The Suicide Prevention Project

An Alarming Trend

Statistics for the USA

Suicide has increased 30% since the year 2000.

Someone takes their own life every 11 minutes. That's 130 suicides per day.

Someone takes their own life every 11 seconds. That's 130 suicides per day.

Suicide deaths exceed those of natural disasters, wars, and homicide combined.

60% of Americans will experience suicide death in their lifetime.

Every day 20 veterans end their lives.

What is the Suicide Prevention Project?

The Suicide Prevention Project is an initiative spearheaded by award-winning author, speaker, and grief counselor Gary Roe.

“Over the past three years, I’ve officiated at over a dozen funerals of people who took their own lives, almost all of them under the age of 25. The devastating aftermath of this forever decision on parents, siblings, spouses, co-workers, and friends is stunning and debilitating. After a friend’s teen son died by suicide this past December, I knew I had to do something.”

The result was five books, below.

Living on the Edge: How to Fight and Win the Battle for Your Mind and Heart

(Teen Edition / Adult Edition)

This brief book describes the pain and frustration of life and how to deal with it. Gary directly addresses suicidal thinking and then turns the reader’s attention to living with purpose and passion. The goal of Living on the Edge is to stir hope in the reader’s heart and motivate them to become the Difference Makers they are designed to be.

Difference Maker: Overcoming Adversity and Turning Pain into Purpose, Every Day

(Teen Edition / Adult Edition)

A follow-up book to Living on the Edge, Difference Maker exposes the common lies our hearts are vulnerable to and how these lies can lead to self-sabotaging thoughts and suicidal behavior. Gary challenges readers to replace lies they’ve believed with the truth and to discover their mission and purpose in life. The goal of the book is to move readers from merely surviving to thriving.

Living on the Edge and Difference Maker are must reads for teens or anyone contemplating self-harm, struggling with depression, or knows somebody who is. Every parent and every teen should read these books.”

Amazing. Such a difficult topic, but I appreciate how direct the author is, and that he didn’t over complicate the process.  Living on the Edge is exactly the type of book teens need – clear and to the point. A valuable resource for counselors.
